While the Boston Bruins said goodbye to Michael Ryder today, they also welcomed another former Montreal Canadien to the mix: Benoit Pouliot.
The 25-year old is 6'3" and 199 pounds. He's a former first round pick of the Minnesota Wild (No. 4 overall in 2005) who just wrapped up his first full season in the NHL with the Habs.
In 79 games in 2010-11, he scored 13 goals and had 17 assists. He was +2 and racked up 87 penalty minutes. He had 129 shots on goal and averaged 11:32 of ice time per game.
It's a very low-risk and possibly high reward move since they only signed him for one year and $1.1 million dollars. He has the versatility to play all three forward positions and Boston has to hope that he can continue to get better and show some of the potential that earned him such a lofty draft spot in a draft class that included Sidney Crosby and Bobby Ryan.
He doesn't replace Ryder right away but the Bruins can use the money they spent on Ryder to get a more motivated and proven player while hoping that Pouliot pans out with a change of scenery.
